about lllT

Whilst massaging your horse, I may use a Photizo Vetcare Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) device on sore and tender areas. This allows me to access areas that are particularly sensitive and to treat horses that aren’t keen on hands-on massage.

LLLT is a non-invasive therapy that does not require medication or sedation. It is quick and pain free and can be used as a complementary therapy alongside other treatments, such as medications or physical therapy, to provide a holistic approach to your horse's healthcare.

LLLT, also known as cold laser therapy or photo biomodulation, is a non-invasive treatment method that uses low-intensity laser or light-emitting diodes (LEDs) to stimulate healing and reduce pain and inflammation in horses.

How could it benefit my horSe?

Pain Relief

LLLT can help alleviate pain and reduce inflammation in various musculoskeletal conditions. It can be particularly useful in managing joint pain, tendon and ligament injuries, muscle strains and arthritis in horses. The laser's energy promotes the release of endorphins, which are natural pain-relieving substances, helping to relax and improve your horse's comfort.

Accelerated Healing

LLLT has been shown to enhance the healing process by increasing blood circulation and increasing levels of cellular reactions (by improving production of ATP in the mitochondria). It can aid in healing wounds, such as cuts, abrasions and surgical incisions, as well as promote faster recovery from musculoskeletal injuries or conditions like tendonitis.

Reduction of swelling and inflammation

The laser's energy can help reduce swelling and inflammation by improving lymphatic drainage and reducing fluid build-up. This can be beneficial for horses with conditions like oedema and wind galls.

Improved Mobility and Performance

By reducing pain, inflammation and promoting healing, LLLT can enhance your horse's overall mobility, range of motion and flexibility. This can be advantageous for competitive horses or those involved in demanding activities, as it may help optimize their performance and reduce the risk of further injuries.

Delilah’s new owner came to me for help with Delilah’s mallenders. They were deep, very sore and unfortunately, vet prescribed medication was no longer helping.

Using the Photizo, I treated the sores every day for 10 days, followed by alternate days for the next two weeks. This gave the cells the boost they desperately needed in order to start to heal. Her owner took fantastic care of the wounds at the same time and, as you can see from the photos, they are now almost completely gone.
