about hands-on Massage

Equine sports massage can play a valuable role in maintaining the overall health and well-being of your horse, whether they are retired or an eventer.

The primary goal of equine sports massage is to optimize the horse's physical condition and performance. It helps to alleviate muscle soreness, stiffness and tension which can result from training, exercise or nervous energy. The massage techniques I use aim to improve circulation, enhance flexibility, reduce muscle spasms and promote faster recovery from injuries.

Equine sports massage offers several other benefits; it can help prevent injuries by identifying areas of muscle tightness or weakness before they become serious issues. Regular massages can improve the horse's range of motion, increase suppleness and enhance overall athletic performance. Massage can also promote relaxation, reduce stress and improve the horse's mental well-being.

As a certified equine massage therapist, I have undergone specialist training to understand the anatomy, physiology and biomechanics of horses. I will assess the horse's condition, conformation, movement patterns and muscle development to provide effective and safe massages and tailor the
massage to meet the individual needs of your horse.

During treatments, I use various techniques to address specific areas and issues. These may include effleurage (long, gliding strokes), petrissage (kneading or squeezing of muscles), cross fibre friction, compression, stretching, and joint mobilization.

Equine sports massage is not a substitute for veterinary care but can be used in conjunction with it. I can work alongside your vet, osteopath and physio to ensure the massage sessions align with the horse's overall health and any ongoing treatments.
